Tears for weeks The sky drowns the valley Iced mountain tops Melting rapidly The old gypsy’s boiling Her meal in a pot Observing her granddaughter Next to the student Egenolff Beware the cliffs Hidden in the mist Love so sweet Naja the blushing gal Saddened by the departure Of the papermakers’s son Egenolff as a sign Of devotion and a vow Put a ring on her finger With ruby red as blood Refrain Though whispering the gypsy in awe: „Red as blood – love will end in your fall“ Refrain Solitude struck Naja the miserable Her loved one back at his father’s home Only the ring as a memory to hold on to While she’s waiting for him to return At the cliffs of the old monastery At Allerheiligen she watched the sun turn Held the ruby up to the light Mezmerized how the colour would burn Misfortune cloaked as a raven Greedily it snatched from her hand The glaring rememberance of Egenolff Disappearing into its misty lair As time passed until whitsun Egenolff returned as he’s pledged In shame Naja greeted her loved one Admitting to her loss of his gift Up these cliffs – a raven’s nest in a crack Climb in vain – and you shall face certain death Insisting on foolish ambitions The young man faced the slope Naja begging for reason As the ring did not replace their love Up these cliffs - a raven’s nest in a crack Climb in vain and you shall to your death Up these cliffs – a man fell to his death Naja cursing the ruby – following into his depths The gorge calls

A land in debris Fates woven in blood Trapped in Burg Windeck The dean won’t leave for now At the foot of the burg‘s hill Roams the pale woman alone Only her fowl and herbs around Solitude – a quiet home Windeck - beware thee Strassbourg - claims the dean Windeck – beware thee Strassbourg – plans the siege „Oh you dear childen! What brought you orphants here? Come, come and eat Just rest right there!“ Shy they complied and both ate in tears The dean – their uncle His health is what they feared Refrain „Don’t worry you fragile souls! We’ll buy off his freedom soon Just gift this to Master Reinhart This hen will pave your path! The soldiers of Strassbourg charging They’ll stomp his wall into dust! If he places this hen at the old cross She’ll dig a moat at dusk“ Hesitant yet hopeful The orphants took the fowl And on their way they went to free Their uncle from the burg On their way up the hill Reinhart took the siblings in And placed the hen as he was told At the cross to build the moat Deep at night the hordes arrived Armed soldiers in thirst for blood Almost storming Burg Windeck But suddenly they had to stop A moat circling the well Too deep to march right through Enraged by the unexpected hurdle An end to their bold pursuit The old lady grinning and laughing „See I promised thee“ The orphants though with their uncle Escaped in silence by the hordes unseen

On a chariot of cursed death Pointing the spear drenched in pus Towards peasants, women and men The cruel scourge roams throughout the land Malicious and as far as eyes can see The disease reaps what it sows Even the secluded folks of Baden Won’t be spared to pay the toll Hordes of rats – piles of skulls A reaper that voraciously feasts Beware the kiss of early demise The curse is strolling the streets Has the lord bestowed upon us This trial of harsh agony Was it sin and did we go astray Or do we witness judgement day Do penance and plea for forgiveness Flagellation as an act of contrition Perhaps the cloaked healer with their mask May find a way to cure the condition Refrain Im Antlitz des gefrässigen Nebels Stockt der Atem des irdischen Heers Eingepfercht in vier Wänden Die Ungewissheit an ihnen zehrt Verlassen von himmlischer Gnade Und geplagt von Gottes Abstinenz Zwischen Wahn und ewiger Unruh Verbleibt nur der Sternenhimmel der unschuldig glänzt Ohne Zuflucht und Rat stirbt die Hoffnung Und auch die Nächsten werden fremd Wo Gräber Hüllen ohne Gesichter wahren Verbleibt nur das Jenseits am Firmament The dawn will unveil the bodies Pale linen to wrap the deceased The afternoon lends us time To search cure for this agony The dusk will offer a final kiss A farewell to whom it may ever be The night in complete silence Ignores sorrow in blunt apathy On a chariot of cursed death Pointing the spear drenched in pus Towards peasants, women and men The cruel scourge roams throughout the land In this prosperous town near the woods Calmly resides the magnificent bride Katharina alongside Karl the first And their children born in light Refrain Look at thee! Pray for thee! The splendor – the wealth – the pride A coat of arms tarnished by rats The town’s heart confronted with terror It’s pulse stopped by a shock „The gift taken for granted Forlorn grace in our blind greed Gazing upon a horizon Towards the sun to praise our creed Lord almighty, heed our plea Show mercy upon our breed In famine – in death We endure your sentence Come forth to me - enlighten me Punish me for whatever you may judge Strayed from the path I confess my sin and lust! Clinging on life in vain My gold won’t protect from disease No chance bribing death itself No use for my nobility Karl oh my beloved The hereafter shall comfort your soul This castle – our children My burden while you’re gone Come forth to me - enlighten me Punish me for whatever you may judge Strayed from the path I confess my sin and lust!“ Oh Katharina you fragile hull of glass About to be shattered to glistening shards The sharp edges drenched in noble blood Pray – hope and fall asleep Embraced by the unkown deep Find the answer unknown Refuge in silence – precious serenity The frolicking two children No sight of misery – forthcoming light An angel? A mentor to guide? The heavenly mother in gold Whispers to Katharina tonight „Don’t shiver my child You trapped in this tower of stone I’ve witnessed your love for your children And your people starving in hope This scourge won’t last much longer If you put trust in my words I appeal to your endless faith And I’ll reward thee with your town rebirthed Flood the streets With thermal waters steaming in heat From Hohenbaden down to the gutters Wash away the dreadful disease“ Awaken by rays at dawn Katharina leaves her vivid dream The eyes opened to her world A sigh uttered in disbelief Has she finally gone mad Did sanity leave the magravine As the dying city of Baden Greets her with new found bodies Heresy! To believe such things! Treachery! Truth of frenzy and sin? The cold grip of fear Crawling down her neck In the pursuit of happiness Her confidence has cracked But blessed are those who dare And Katharina planned her deed The words of the holy mother A last way out of the grief Bridge „A promise if we persevere An oath in honor of the heir You’ll may take My children to your house As friar and nun I’ll pay for what you’ve done“ Roaring floods galloping Like stallions in a stampede Katharina commands the purge Of this vicious prestilence Holding unto the last straw In her eyes the certainty If she fails in her decision She will inevitably fall from grace Bridge Ströme reissend - alles verzehrend Still und leise - Unrat nimmermehr Shining in the glistening streets The sun salutes the town Ever since Katharina’s flooding Death was no longer around Promises were kept for sure Katharina sighed in relief Her children in the monastery As gratitude for the end of the rotten siege
