A Moor Beneath the Cold Dead Sun
A squall of rain and thunder Lapping at my heel as I take to the stairs Hot lead, red blood; asunder again the night Swallowing me now It’s been nine years Since the night he came to this place And my course was altered forever His errant steps to retrace And protect what’s left to remember Little orphan, cold skin wet with blood With these hands, I brought him back to life Just to watch him grow to use his own To wrest the life from another Now, the time has come to sеt things right I slip away unperceived And undеr siege I will do what must be done And though I walk through the valley Of the shadow of death I fear no evil but the evil in my heart As I stumble in between My conviction that all life is sacred And the will to snuff it out to do my part I trace the monster’s steps From west to east and east to west again I slither through the daylight And I stumble through the dark Traverse the crepuscular Space between the two To find the truth before This lie tears me apart A macabre prose composed With wine-dark skid marks on the floor A door emmured in plaster laid in haste How many people died here? The question is enough To make a madman of a saint A nightmare was awakened By this nascent taste A vision of the end to come A moor beneath the cold, dead sun I follow the body trail Fallout of cindered hail Always a minute too late Always trailing a step behind Oblivious to the mind’s eye Of this golden-haired beast I chase Harbinger rainfall An echoing shot from the forest Outsiders walk among them Spreading their instruments Sowing the seeds of distrust To turn them on one another Blood on the asphalt A slaughterous fog rises Lightning crashing right over our heads And the devil himself stops To turn up his chin in disgust As hell claims this once peaceful town My finger over the trigger This road has taken everything from me It’s led me right to this moment Somehow, I can’t help but freeze I see hell in his eyes And with his velvet tongue He opens up his mouth to speak “Let me show you a vision of the end Can you see it now? Do you understand?”

The labyrinth opens before me The light at the end Now I can barely see it Tattered paper dolls A procession amorphous Takes new form in the shadow And every step I take I feel these mountains moving To bring us farther apart And I’m watching and waiting Away from the world But time and again I stick my nose too deep in And time and again My intentions bear a curse And it haunts us to our lonely graves I long for the sun beyond the storm If it’s there, it’s fainter than my eyes can see A tempest stirs above the waves The earth is shaking Every fearful step I’ve taken Has been in your hallowed wake In all the time you’ve deigned To let me wander behind you By the oath carved in my heart This blood and sulfur in the hearth It’s I who will suffer Let this be my cross to carry So you might live So you might live You were the only one To ever put their faith in me But I wasn’t fit to walk in your shadow I’ll try this one more time Find the strength inside To guide you to the light Beyond the storm I found love in the world behind your eyes A rose-coloured rapture in endless skies

The corporate-sponsored narrative reigns Hoax-hoarse, sound recourse, conspirators Painted the same; gristle for the fear machine They bemoan our losses with oleaginous display But we never meant shit to them And they’ve lost the plot, and the horror unfolds As we’re wrung out and cast to the wind Lifebearers! Capitulating by neglect’s device To shoulder every vice but thе greed A generation condemnеd to die With their shit on their knees But they saw this coming And they stuck their dime Anytime we get a good thing going It’s just a matter of time Till they fuck it up Cut supports Let us freeze out in the streets Strike the hours From our nights as we bleed the days On their floors I’m not living to die But I am dying to live again This has gone on long enough They’ll force us closer than flesh For the right price Laying the guilt on our heads As the death tolls rise Piling the dirt on our heads Pandemic death cult I’ve seen it eat its way through naysayers And adherents alike I’ve seen it tearing like a scythe through kin and clan Those who’ve dared to doubt its wrath have borne The choking weight of truth Day by day, I’ve seen them falling where they stand O these times are godless, and the core is rotting From the inside out, through every pore These needlemongers with their guise of concern Have cast us all to the wayside With lust for plunder They’re keeping us caged in our nests Panic-threshed and blind Detritus entwined in our nets Half-truths meshed with lies And piling the guilt on our heads As the death tolls rise And I repeat to myself There’s got to be a better way than this There’s got to be a better way than this
